I’m partnering with Quantum Health to bring you these 6 simple tricks for staying healthy on the go this summer. All opinions are mine.
When your family is busy, the idea of staying healthy-on-the-go can fly out the window in between stops to the grocery store and soccer practice. Leaving you to fall victim to whatever is easiest: like grabbing fast food and a sugar laden soda because it’s most convenient. Even staying up late to get the most of your time at the theme park may seem harmless until you are left tired, cranky, and not feeling your best. If you aren’t careful, those not-so-healthy choices could even cause you to be out having fun as a family.
Staying Healthy While On-The-Go
Staying healthy while on-the-go takes some effort, but it can be done. Your best weapons in being healthy are pre-planning and preparation. Let me share a few simple tricks we use to stay healthy and, as a result, do more as a family.
1. Balance Work & Play
All work and no play makes for an unhappy life. Whether on a road trip, driving around town, or working in a project, taking a short break is good for your health. Even just 60 seconds every hour gives you the chance to get up and get blood moving, stretch your legs, take a mental break, etc. After the work is done, plan to take more time to have some active fun. Play a game outdoors, go for a walk/run, toss a frisbee, etc. That fun time will help reduce stress and a little vitamin N (nature) can boosts your immune system
2. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Water is essential for our bodies to function properly. Carry a refillable water bottle with you when you leave the house and refill as needed to ensure that you are getting enough water throughout the day. It is recommended that an adult drink 6 to 8 glasses (8oz) of water a day.
3. Count Your Zzzzz
Part of being healthy is giving your body the rest it needs each night. Losing sleep can hinder your body’s ability to think clearly, focus, and fight off illness, making it easier to get sick. When on the go, we have a tendency to want to get everything done, see everything while on vacation, and make the most out of every minute. But if we burn the candle at both ends, our bodies will NOT reward us!
4. Support Your Immune System
Elderberry and Echinacea are two popular antiviral herbs that help support the immune system naturally. Last winter, I started taking elderberry when the flu ran rampant in the kids’ schools and followed them home. Elderberry fights viral and sinus infections, plus works to relieve flu symptoms. It helped in my flu recovery. After learning more about elderberry’s health benefits and talking with my doctor, I started to take TheraZinc Elderberry Lozenges to boost my immune systems and support my overall health. TheraZinc contains immune-boosting elderberry and zinc gluconate.
Now that it’s allergy season, it’s also helping to ease my allergy symptoms by reducing inflammation. (Note: I’m not a doctor but found this to be effective for myself. Before using any supplement, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, herbalist, or other healthcare provider. 5. Sun protection
The sun’s ultraviolet rays can start to damage your skin in as little as 15 minutes. As the weather warms and we head into summer, it is best to lather up with a quality broad spectrum sunscreen and then cover up to protect your skin from the sun. Protective clothing such as long sleeves and hats help shield skin from harmful rays in addition to sunscreen. I recommend using a plant based natural sunscreen that is free of harsh, hormone-disrupting chemicals.
6. Insect Repellant
The threat of the Zika virus warrants having insect repellant on hand where ever you go. For active families who enjoy the outdoors, a quality repellant will protect against mosquitos that cause Zika, ticks and other biting insects. For our family, we use DEET free products that are extremely effective.
Staying healthy on the go can be easy for families with a little planning and preparation. These tricks have helped our family be healthier and do more together. They can do the same for you. Have a great summer and have fun discovering your own family adventures.
