I’m with you on fresh tortillas being the best! Growing up in a Hispanic household, my mom’s homemade corn tortillas were a staple. There’s nothing like the smell of them cooking on a cast iron griddle. Have you ever tried making tortillas with a different type of flour?

Great tutorial, thank you. I’ve tried them a couple times and my problem is that they won’t brown at all—they look pale. I’m using a cast iron frying pan with no oil and if I leave them long enough to “brown” (they kinda go from pale to black spots) then they get hard. Hallllp! 😀 And thanks in advance.

I couldn’t say it better myself. Homemade is so much better. The original version of this recipe had a little salt, but I couldn’t tell a difference without it. Either way, they were great. What does your grandmother’s flour tortilla recipe have in it?
