Reducing household waste does not have to be a challenge. In fact, the best way to reduce waste is to choose one or two waste problems and find a solution that is green. You can do this every few months or just choose one or two ways to green up your life each year. Change does not have to be big. Change matters even if it seems small.
Our family has recently decided to take on a Green UP challenge. Why don’t you take the change with us?
For the Green UP challenge we have decided to reduce our families waste to a single jar for the whole month of March. While seemingly impossible, we have been sorting out the logistics since November. The challenge is open to everyone and anyone whether you want to reduce your waste to a single jar OR choose a single Green UP goal.
Throughout all of our planning we have come up with 7 easy ways to Green UP your life today!

Every Day Can Be Earth Day With These Tips
Use a Refillable Waterbottle
Go Green Recycling
Reduce Single Use Products
Say NO take out coffee mugs, paper plates, etc.
Use Reusable Grocery Bags
Use reusable cloth grocery and produce bags. Some stores allow you to also bring reusable storage containers for bulk items. Check with your local store on this first. When it comes to bags, they are easy to forget. So try to leave them in the car you take grocery shopping so they are readily available. Once you have unloaded the groceries put them back into your car.
Use Silicone snack or reusable sandwich bags
Buy reusable snack bags or containers to be used for lunches. Even if you just switch out one wasteful item that will make a big difference!
Say NO to Plastic Straws
Don’t use plastic straws. When ordering a drink at a restaurant ask for no plastic straws. If you have little ones like we do that benefit from drinking from a straw then bring reusable straws with you to the restaurant.
Opt for Paperless Receipts
If you do not need a receipt from the store then make sure to say no before they print it out! If you DO need your receipts then see if they have an e-mail option. Make sure to create a receipt folder on your e-mail so you know where to find those receipts!
