Get Your Kids To Try New Foods with Raddish Kids (Review + Coupon Code)

Little Family Adventure sometimes receives compensation and/or hosted travel and sample products related to blog posts. This story may contain affiliate links.

Want your kids to be more adventurous and try new foods? The best way I’ve found is to get them in the kitchen and cooking. Raddish Kids is a kids subscription box that encourages children to try new recipes, learn about food, and sharpen their culinary skills. PLUS it makes a GREAT gift! Let me share my experience/review and give you a coupon code so you can try it too.

What is Raddish Kids?

Raddish Kids is a monthly cooking subscription box for kids. It is designed for ages 4 to 14, but it can easily be modified so the whole family can take part. Boxes are themed each month; seasonal (Summer Backyard BBQ), international cuisine (Japanese), learning based (Garden), etc. Each month, your Raddish kit includes 3 recipe cards, a quality kitchen tool, an iron-on patch for your cooking apron, shopping list, conversation/table talk cards, and activity card.

What We Like About This Kids Subscription Box

Meal kits and food subscription boxes are a fun way to mix things up.

  1. You can be pushed just beyond your comfort zone to try new flavors without going too wild. I liked that all of the ingredients needed were basic things and easy enough to find at the grocery store.
  2. When you try new recipes/cuisines, you can also learn about new places and/or people. The website offers additional resources, games, and playlists to help.
  3. When cooking is involved, you improve your cooking skills. When children cook, they are also working on their math skills, reading, and teamwork ( if working with other people). Free educational lesson plans accompany every theme and can be found online on the Bonus Bites section.

As a parent, I love the international themes Raddish Kids offers and the corresponding lesson plans for future learning on their website. As I write this, we aren’t traveling due to C-19. So we are exploring new places from our kitchen and loving it!! Let me show you the box we recently tried.

Taste of Thailand Cooking Kit

We tested out the Taste of Thailand box. The recipes included in this box were Pad Thai noodles, Coconut Mango Rice, and Chicken Skewers. Each recipe card included an illustrated grocery list, step by step instructions, and featured culinary skill.

What we liked and didn’t – The chicken skewers with peanut sauce and the coconut mango rice were two that we really liked. The rice was so simple to make and we have made it many times since discovering the recipe. The peanut sauce for the chicken is simpler than the version I make at home for Peanut Butter Rice.  Unfortunately, we didn’t care for the Pad Thai recipe. My family said it wasn’t “authentic” enough because it lacked fish sauce and tamarind paste.

Mango Sticky Rice – ooooh soooo good

In addition to the recipes,  the cooking club box included a silicone coated metal whisk, conversation starter cards, apron patch, and grocery list. If we had a need to make dietary modifications, suggestions can be found on the Bonus Bites section of the website. There we could find substitutions to accommodate vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, egg free, & dairy free diets.

Overall, my daughter and I enjoyed cooking the three recipes together. The cost of the kit was $24 because it was a one time purchase. I thought  that was a bit high for what I received as there were no ingredients in the kit. However, as a gift or as an education kitchen project, I would recommend this highly.

Bonus Bites

The “Bonus Bites” page on the website is something I really like. It’s free to the public and offers cooking demonstration videos, lesson plans, and parent resources that are very helpful. For those with dietary restrictions and/or food allergies, there are options with just about every recipe.

Unit Studies & Summer Camp

The free unit studies can an added plus and available on the website. There is a small “Little Bite” or a deeper “Big Bite” option. The resource lists on both are excellent. When we homeschooled, the kids loved projects and unit studies like these because they provided days of learning and a great starting point for independent learning.

For the summer, Raddish Camps teamed together with Outschool to offer video cooking classes. To date, there are 22 classes for children ages 8-13. You can find this and other virtual classes on Outschool.
