I recently read a Top 10 list from DisneyQuestions.com about the things they were thankful for about Disney. That got me thinking. I LOVE Disney, always have. I grew up in Southern California and went to Disneyland many times. As an adult, I’ve enjoyed taking my children to Walt Disney World and Disneyland several times. In the last 7 years, my family has gone to Disney World in Florida more than any other theme park or vacation destination. So why do we keep going back? What am I thankful for about Disney? What are the things I love about Disney World?
Top 8 Things I Love About Disney World
8. We get to escape into the magic of Disney:
Once we arrive on property, I feel that I have entered into a magical place. I stay at one of the on-property Disney resorts. These resorts make me feel immersed in all things Disney from the resort theme, decor, music, staff, etc. It’s as if I’ve left the real world behind and entered my vacation. It’s a place where I don’t have to worry about what’s going on at home. I just need to sit back and enjoy. I know that everything is taken care of for me to enjoy time there. If something isn’t right, staff/cast members are available to make it right.
7. Disney can be a planner’s dream vacation:
I am one of those people who loves to plan, almost to a fault. If you are so inclined, you can plan most aspects of your Disney trip before you even get there. There are thousands of websites and books to help you learn about Disney. The planning gets me excited about the trip and ready to not be anxious about traveling.
6. You can be a kid again:
Mickey Mouse cartoons and going to Disney are things I grew up with. I can go to Disney World and be a kid again. I leave my cares at the airport and enjoy the joy, fun, and magic that Disney has to offer. It’s really hard for me to not have fun at Disney. I get to be the “Fun Mom” with my kids and enjoy the rides and fun with them.
5. Cast Members:
Some of my fondest memories are of my children interacting with cast members and characters. Whether it’s a costumed character like Snow White or an attendant at a ride, employees personify the Disney spirit. They are there to make the visitor have a wonderful experience. Cast members routinely go above and beyond to ensure the guest has a wonderful experience.
I feel safe when I’m on property. I know that if my child was ever lost, they have a fantastic system in place to reunite us. There are cast members everywhere on property. I know that there are also plain clothes security guards around for my safety as well. When my children were in strollers, I felt secure in leaving my stroller in stroller areas without fear of theft.
For our family, Disney is cheaper than other vacation destinations. As a timeshare owner, I have been able to exchange in & reserve villas at the DVC resorts for a booking fee (timeshare is already paid, so I’m not spending any extra money for the year). As a retired military family, we love getting the special military discounted tickets. After that it’s just food and travel expenses. Even without the discounts, Disney is very doable on a budget. They offer so many different promotions, that this can be a very affordable vacation.
I don’t know of any other place that is this clean or well maintained. Disney takes great pride in their property and it shows. You’ll regularly see staff cleaning up the park, working on the grounds, and maintaining the property. You’re probably never step in a piece of gum because it isn’t sold on property. When a building or ride is closed for refurbishment, Disney hides the construction mess behind decorative skims. These panels keep the look of the area free of “ugliness” and keep with the area’s overall feel.
I love the variety and quality of food available on Disney property. If you crave it, you can find it on property. There are several restaurants and foods that I crave and MUST have when at Disney World (Dole Whip, German Pretzels, anything at BOMA, etc.) EPCOT is one of my favorite theme parks because of the food. I travel the World Showcase and eat my way around the world. In 7 years, I’ve NEVER had anything I didn’t like. Plus for those with food allergies or sensitivities, Disney goes above and beyond. You can make special arrangements prior to arriving and talk to chefs at the restaurants, so that they can prepare foods the cater to your allergies.
