Lately, I have really enjoyed trying out different meal delivery services like Blue Apron and Sun Basket. I like the idea of having healthy meal ingredients delivered right to my door, making healthy eating more convenient. Being a busy family puts a premium on the time I have to cook healthier meals for my family. So when Veestro asked me to review their gourmet plant based meals, I happily agreed. As much as I love bacon and other meat based proteins, I also enjoy vegetarian dishes. So I was excited to see what Veestro’s plant based meals tasted like.
Veestro sent me their Regular Starter Pack to try out in exchange for this honest review. It included 12 meals and a green juice. All the meals contains natural, non-GMO ingredients which were 100% plant based.
The Veestro Regular Starter Pack included:
- Savory Croquettes
- Oatmeal Breakfast Pie
- Veggie Empanadas
- Country Fried Chick’n
- Veggie Burger Patty
- Soba Noodles in Peanut Sauce
- Enchilada Casserole
- Thai Chick’n Stew
- Red Curry with Tofu
- Golden Chickpea Stew
- Mushroom Risotto
- Johnny Appleseed (juice)
- Three Layer Scramble
The meals were delivered in an insulated box with gel packs to keep everything cold. Each meal was packaged individually in a divided paper container similar to a TV dinner or vacuum sealed freezer bags. Instructions included with the box said to store the meals in the freezer until ready to use.
When I was ready to cook a meal, it was recommended to pop a meal in the refrigerator the night before to shorten cooking time. I remembered to do that on a few occasions, but not always. I liked that there was a variety of meals, but heating directions varied from thaw and serve, to oven, to microwave. Therefor I had to do a little more planning than I thought I would with my meals. Meals like the risotto weren’t thawed before hand and when cooked in the microwave resulted in a meal I wasn’t happy with. The texture was a little weird.
Overall the meals were really good. If I hadn’t known that they were all plant based, I would not have realized it on my own. The Country Fried Chick’n tasted like chicken and had the texture of a pressed chicken nugget/bite. Serving size for each item was adequate and filled me up.
- Favorite Meals: Soba Noodles in Peanut Sauce (shown above), Chickpea Stew, Enchilada Casserole, Savory Croquettes
- Didn’t care for the Mushroom Risotto
Overall, the Veestro Starter Pack meals would be something I would eat again. The retail cost is $99 with free shipping. That breaks down to $7.60 a meal/juice. For me and my family, that is considerable more than I would normally spend. You can order meal packs this or you can order al a carte. Visit veestro.com to learn more.
