The post on how to treat yourself is sponsored by the NEW Oikos Oh! Double Cream Yogurt but the content and opinions expressed are my own.
As a mother, I feel like I have to be everything for everyone in my life. I am a mom, wife, family trip planner, business owner, sibling mediator, laundry master, chef to a household of picky eaters, carpool volunteer… This list goes on and on. With all those hats/jobs, it often feels like I don’t have and can’t make time for myself. Yet this couldn’t be further from the truth!
You NEED to make that time and treat yourself regularly. Otherwise, it can be hard to find any joy or fun in things. That leads to days becoming lackluster, drab, and a chore more than a pleasure. Making time for yourself doesn’t have to be anything overly elaborate or expensive. It’s about indulging in life’s simple pleasures.
I love this quote because it’s a great reminder
How to Treat Yourself
Do What Brings You Joy!
Channeling my inner Marie Kondo here, “Do things that spark joy”. I’ve been watching her show and am seriously considering tidying up my whole house. I’m NOT quite there, but she has a great point that we should only hold onto things that actually bring you joy. The same can be said for the activities we engage in.
Treat yourself to the activities that bring you joy. Here are a few ideas:
- Get outside for a walk because we all know how great it feels to be outdoors
- Paint, draw, color, and just be creative
- Curl up and read a book
- Do nothing and just relax (this is one I often forget about)
- Soak in the tub (bubbles, aromatherapy, candles optional)
- Crank up the radio and sing
- along to your favorite music
- Head to the gym to exercise our stress out
- Take a yoga class
- Indulge in a sweet something
It’s essential that you provide yourself with opportunities to mentally and emotionally recharge. Even if that means you escape to your closet for a few minutes of uninterrupted quiet time with a Salted-Dusted Caramel Creme Oikos Oh! Double Cream Yogurt.
A girl has to have her guilty pleasures. In the end, you need to fill your cup before you can take care of others.
Tip: Commit to “Me Time”. I started actually scheduling “me time” in my calendar. Where before I would put it off, now it’s a priority and I’m better for it. Just ask my family.
2. Write Yourself Notes!
You know that wide grinned smile a lunchbox note brings your child? Do that for yourself! Remind yourself how awesome you are and that “You Got This”.
I write little notes to myself to leave around the house and also write down inspirational quotes in my journal. That little note brightens my day and can be passed on to someone else who needs it.
3. Be Your Own Cheerleader
We all need a little pep talk, so be your own cheering squad. It goes along with number 2 and being positive. When looking at the calendar and “To-Do List”, it’s really easy to feel bogged down by all the things I HAVE to do and start with the negative self talk. “I have to go to work”, “I have to get my boots resoled”, “I have to go to grocery store” and so on. Using the words “have to…. (fill in the blank)” make tasks feel like such a chore. STOP THAT!
When you consider that you don’t have to do anything, but instead get to do all these amazing things, you feel positive, inspired, even cheered up to, keep going.
Change your wording to change your mind set and feel inspired. Since January, I’ve made a conscience effort to stop saying “I have to …(fill in the blank)” and use “I GET to…(fill in the blank)”. Here’s an example of what I mean. “I HAVE to pick the kids from school.” I GET to pick the kids from school and GET to be the first to hear about their day.” See the difference? That one word changes my whole outlook and it will for you too!
4. Enjoy What You Eat!
Treat yourself to a sweet or indulgent something. If you want to eat that slice of cake, eat it.
I may say eat the cake, but for
Try one of these 4 varieties:
- Salted-Dusted Caramel Creme
- Magnificent Mixed Berry Rhubarb (my favorite)
- Lemon Sweet Cream Delight
- Honey Drizzled Blueberry
Tip: Want to ensure the family doesn’t find your yogurt cup? Hide it in the vegetable bin. Works every time!
5. Laugh with Friends and Family
With so much of our daily interactions being digital, it’s important to get face to face time with friends and family. Nothing relieves stress better than a good laugh. So get together with friends and talk about things that make you laugh. According to a University of Oxford study, women’s overall health is improved when they get together with friends weekly where they “do things” where they can socialize and laugh together. Laughter really is the best medicine for relaxing. So invite the girls over and be sure to have plenty of Oikos Oh! Double Cream Yogurts on hand to share the love.
These are great ways to treat yourself and bring a little joy to your day. The next time we GET to go to the grocery store on your own (that part really sparks joy for me) look for NEW Oikos Oh! Double Cream Yogurts. Grab a few and treat yourself and your family today!
