What Makes the Galapagos Islands the Perfect Tour Destination?

The world is full of amazing travel destinations, especially if you’re planning a cruise. You could visit the Bahamas, the Maldives, and countless other destinations.

So, why book private Galapagos tours?

When you cruise the Galapagos Islands, you embark on an unforgettable journey of discovery. With its unique climate and wildlife, the islands are a truly unique travel experience — and one that shouldn’t be missed!

Let’s explore some insights about trips to the Galapagos, so you can decide whether it’s the ideal travel destination for your family:

Exquisite Wildlife

The Galapagos Islands were initially made famous because of the unique wildlife, and more so, because of the studies Charles Darwin did there. You don’t have to go to another planet if you want to see otherworldly wildlife. The Galapagos Islands have plenty!

Want to see a dwarf penguin in a tropical climate? You’ll find them here.

What about blue-footed birds? They’re here too!

In fact, over 90% of the wildlife are native to the Galapagos Islands. Other famous wildlife to explore include Giant Galapagos Tortoises, marine iguanas, sea lions and hawks, amongst others. The reefs around some of these Islands also have some amazing fish and you may even see some species of dolphins that prefer to live around these waters.

Amazing Weather

The Galapagos Islands are located near the equator, and the temperature is moderate year-round. However, the best time to visit the Galapagos is in December and January when the weather is hot and sunny.

You’re probably wondering when winter is on these Islands. Well, unlike most of the world, the Galapagos islands only have 2 real seasons- the rainy season and the dry season.

In the rainy season, you’ll encounter warm waters and plentiful marine wildlife such as whales and dolphins. It’s the best time for snorkeling and other water activities. The wet season is from January to May.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit in the dry season either as it has abundant terrestrial wildlife and the weather’s slightly cooler. During the dry season (June to December), it’s less humid and drier with cool winds coming from the south. This is a great time for hiking in the highlands and seeing giant tortoises in their natural habitats. The landscape is more barren during this season but it’s still incredibly beautiful.

If weather is something that’s dictating your travel calendar, it won’t do so here!

No matter what season you go, make sure to bring sunscreen and insect repellent because the sun can be strong year-round and there are always bugs out in nature! Plus, don’t forget a camera so you can capture your special memories of these unique islands!

Unique Natural Landscape

If the wildlife isn’t enough to make your Galapagos private cruise memorable, the natural landscapes will. This Island chain consists of 127 islands grouped together, each with its own unique fauna and flora.

The natural landscape varies from pristine beaches to exquisite reefs and jagged rocks that captivate the shoreline.

Many of these Islands consist of volcanic formations. But don’t worry- there aren’t any active volcanoes on the Galapagos island chain!

Plus, the Islands are covered in lush vegetation. You’ll find many of these plants and trees endemic to the Island, including a type of cactus that grows up to 10 meters tall.

Great Food

The Galapagos Islands are located in Ecuador, so you’ll be served up with fine South American Cuisine. However, if you’re on one of the Galapagos luxury cruises, you’ll get to dine in 5-star restaurants with cuisine of your choice.

Nevertheless, the seafood is worth a try and there’s no way you can leave without trying the famous Langostino Encocado or lobster cooked in coconut.

Things to Do in the Galapagos Islands on a Yacht Charter

A yacht charter in Galapagos is guaranteed to be filled with adventure and these islands are the opposite of boring! Whether you’re a nature lover, want to relax on pristine beaches or have a craze for shopping, there are plenty of activities for everyone.

Need to plan your trip? Here are some fun activities to do in Galapagos:

Relax on Pristine Beaches

Need to soak in some sunshine on some of the best-preserved beaches in the world? You’ve planned a trip to the right place! These 127 islands have some of the most pristine, white beaches that rival the world’s best.

However, you aren’t allowed to relax on all of them, as some are reserved for wildlife. So, make sure to check with officials before stopping at any of the hundreds of beaches this island chain has to offer.

Take Pictures with Unique Wildlife

Most of the 170,000 tourists that visit the Galapagos Islands come for the exotic native wildlife. Since these Islands have been cut off from civilization for thousands of years, the wildlife has evolved into unique species.

There are many penguin, dolphin, tortoise, and iguana viewing parks where you can take pictures with the magnificent animals. Or you could embark on a birdwatching trip and capture the unique island birds.

The Galapagos Islands are protected sites, so wildlife has flourished over the past few decades and there’s always plenty to see!

Go on a Shopping Spree in Santa Fe

Santa Fe is the hub of the Galapagos Islands and a must-visit for anyone on Galapagos Private Yacht charters. It’s lined with kiosks and modern shops with amenities for everyone.

Go on a shopping spree, dine in one of the fine restaurants in the city and get a few souvenirs from the local crafts stores to make your trip memorable.

Scuba Diving

If you have scuba diving experience, you’ll love visiting the coral reefs around the islands. There are also many organized trips for people without any diving experience. And if you aren’t scuba certified, you can snorkel in the calm waters around many of these amazing islands!

Watersports are mainly available near Santa Fe because of the restrictions placed by the Ecuadorian government, so avoid jet skiing around prohibited areas!

Final Thoughts

The Galapagos Islands are some of the most untouched natural wonders in the world. Booking a private Galapagos tour is the best way to visit the many wonders on these Islands. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast or want to see otherworldly wildlife, these Islands are the perfect place to tour.

A word of warning though- be extremely cautious when visiting and avoid affecting any of the wildlife as many of these species are endangered.
