How the Reliefband Sport Helps Naturally Relieve Motion Sickness

motion sickness reliefband

Do you know someone who has a fear of thrill rides, the water, or even just riding in vehicles? If so, they may suffer from motion sickness. Motion sickness is an illness that can be caused by any number of things including car rides, boats and even roller coasters. The Reliefband Sport was designed to help people with this condition find relief. I tested out this motion sickness relief band and share here how the band works and what sets it apart from other remedies I’ve tried before.

Many people have been known to suffer from some sort of travel sickness while on vacation or traveling for work purposes. Cars, boats, planes, trains and even pregnancy hormones might all contribute to motion sickness. I know from personal experience that I get nausous when I’m in the far backseat of a moving vehicle, on boats that rock side to side, and spinning roller coasters.

On a recent trip to Anchorage and Seward, Alaska I was offered the opportunity to test out a new version of the popular wristband – enter the ReliefBand Sport – designed specifically for those who participate in sports and outdoor activities where vomiting might not be a desired outcome.

Shopping Tip: Walmart.com offers faster shipping.

I’m all smiles on my Resurrection Bay Cruise outside Seward, Alaska. No motion sickness on this cruise for me, even after the seas got choppy after this picture was taken.

The small wristband is worn on your wrist like a watch. When powered on, it emits a low electrical current targeting the median nerve on the underside of the wrist. This is a key acupressure point which helps relieve nausea and vomitting symptoms associated with motion sickness.

Reliefband Sport

The Reliefband Sport was designed to help people with this condition find fast acting relief without drowsiness or other side effects.

Standard features:

  • Waterproof design makes it perfect for those who participate in sports or outdoor activities
  • There are six intensity settings you can adjust at the push of a button
  • Rechargeable battery provdes 30 hours of use on medium intensity
  • Drug-free remedy provides immediate relief for motion sickness
  • Two different models are available.
  • Fits wrists between 4″ to 8″

Smartwatch Band

Apple iWatch and Samsung smartwatch owners can integrate their Reliefband Sport with the Reliefband Sport Watch Connectors. This allows you to wear both your watch and Reliefband on the same wrist. You can see in the photo above that it’s a bit bulky. I have small wrists (6″) and I cinched the straps down all the way. Even though it’s a bit bulky, the Reliefband is still effective and it eliminates the double bracelet cuff look I had before.

When I first got these bands, I had some trouble figuring out how to attach them to my watch. I created this video offering a step by step guide to how to attach the sportwatch bands to a 38mm iWatch.

The Reliefband Sport Smartwatch connectors are available in black and grey, and come in two sizes, regular and XL. Find them exclusively on ReliefBand.com for $29.99.

When compared to other nausea remedies I’ve tried, the Reliefband Sport is my top pick. Here’s why:

  • I enjoyed wearing the band on my Resurrection Bay Cruise in Seward, Alaska. The original plan was to cruise out to the glaciers in Kenai Fjords National Park. But due to an approaching storm, the cruise was modified to stay in the bay which was calmer. The seas were calm until we reached the edgeof the bay where swells reached 10 feet. Despite the rough seas, I never experienced any motion sickness.
  • Unlike Dramamine and other OTC remedies, this band worked immedaitely and didn’t leave me drowsy.
  • On the winding mountain roads, I found motionsickness wasn’t a problem when wearing this band. I also found my anxiety was lessened because the accompanying anxiety symptoms triggered by an unsettled stomach weren’t there. So I felt less anxious.
  • The Reliefband Sport doesn’t look like a medical acupressure band not is it uncomfortable to wear like the other accupressure bands. I have tried two sets of accupressure bands that had to be worn extremely tight for them to work. Having to wear them that tight caused skin irritation which I strongly disliked and haven’t worm them since.
  • There’s no sign of using this device; you simply strap it onto your wrist like a fitness bracelet! Plus you can swap out the bands to change the look, just like I swap my Apple Watch bands.

Motion sickness is an illness that can be quite common for travelers caused by anything from car rides to boats. The Reliefband Sport was designed for people with this condition to find relief without drowsiness or other side effects. If you’re hesitant about any activity that might cause motion sickness or simply want relief, I highly recommend this product. It should help get your wheels turning again on how this could work for you!

Traveling can be stressful and it’s hard to stay healthy while on the go. The Reliefband Sport can help active people and vacationers alike find comfort from a common ailment without drugs or side effects. This wearable device can be worn discreetly so you’re always prepared for anything life throws your way!

You can shop at Reliefband.com as well as at Walmart.com. Retail price for the Sport (shown) is $229.99

Amazon.com does not carry this Sport model (shown), but does carry the newer Premium model for $279.99

Frequently Asked Questions about Motion Sickness

Before I close, I wanted to add answers to some of the most common questions readers asked on social media about motion sickness relief.

Why do I get motion sick so easily?

Motion sickness is triggered when your eyes tell your brain your body is in motion but you feel like you’re sitting still. This misalignment confuses the brain and can lead to nausea, vomiting, cold sweats, fatigue and more.

What are common triggers for motion sickness?

Anything that disrupts the signals sent by your inner ear to your brain can trigger motion sickness. This includes being in a vehicle, boat or airplane. When you get off of one form of transportation and get on another, your body still thinks it’s moving because it doesn’t detect the change of surroundings. Other common triggers include reading in a car while waiting at stoplights, working out on a moving machine or letting a room spin at the carnival.

How long does movement sickness last?

Symptoms can last as little as 30 minutes to as long as 24 hours. In severe cases, symptoms can persist for days from being on a boat that hasn’t been docked long enough to allow your body time to adjust to being on land again.

Can anxiety cause motion sickness?

Yes, it can. But the type of anxiety that triggers motion sickness is not always clear-cut. Some people suffer from motion sickness because they are anxious, but others experience anxiety as a result of having motion sickness.

When you use the Reliefband Sport, what changes do you feel?

The electric stimulation transmitted from the band activates a nerve in the hand. You feel a tingling sensation from your palm to your middle finger as each pulse travels along that nerve. It’s not uncomfortable, but you feel it. The resulting feeling throughout the body is just overall better.

How soon does the Reliefband Sport start working?

The Reliefband Sport is designed to immediately relieve symptoms of motion sickness.

Is this supposed to pulse or be a continuous sensation? Tight to my wrist the blue light blinks and the sensation is on/off on/off pulsing. Not sure if mine is working correctly!
