I received this product for editorial purposes and all opinions expressed our my own.
My child received her Smile Zemi to test out, but I also knew she needed a boost with her math skills and being someone with a background with education, I was curious as well on how this program would perform, so I was very excited to give this program a try.
Learning Tablet Teaching Common Core Standards
Smile Zemi is a tablet that promotes independent learning by offering fun exercises coupled with rewards for accomplishments. It focuses on teaching Common Core Standards targeting grades 1-5. Since my daughter is in 4th grade, it seemed like a great program to test out. I also liked the fact that there was no access to the internet so she could not get distracted with other games or videos.
Smile Zemi helps keep children focused solely on learning while cutting out all the other potential distractions. This product creates a balanced cycle of “learning, enjoyment, and support” and is essential to learn independently. Smile Zemi provides not only the materials that enable children to acquire solid academic skills, but also provides an approach for them to continue learning.
Sturdy Tablet Built For Children
I liked that Smile Zemi is a nice, durable and sturdy tablet that you can tell is designed for learning purposes only but is protected in a beautiful sturdy case for those instances a child drops it as well. It has an attached pen that is great for writing notes, solving math problems, or just doodling right there on the screen. My daughter loves that the back of the pen is an eraser. That is not something you see on other tablets.
How It Works
The system itself tracks your child’s progress and parents can monitor it in real time via your smartphone while your child is currently working on it. You can even send them messages via your smart phone to their tablet with encouraging words. Some fun features that my daughter has enjoyed are you can create your own Avatar and picking out clothes and hairstyles. There are also different wallpapers, camera settings and photo albums.
Rewards for Daily Tasks
There are daily rewards and collection cards, even different “events” as well. At the end of the month, your child’s Avatar will attend a ceremony rewarding the child for all the progress they have made. My daughter loves getting on every day to complete her daily tasks which are usually a variety of different topics ranging from ELA, math, social studies, and science.
As a parent I have loved how focused it keeps her. As she is introduced to a new topic, there is an introduction video (under 7 minutes so it keeps her attention), and then there are sample lessons before she does her actual practice assignment. After doing all the assignments, then there is a quiz at the end to see how well she did. If she did not do so well, then they will give extra practice work on the areas that she struggled in. The whole goal is to make sure she is grasping the concept and understanding what she is learning, which is great as a parent. It is not just a quick fix.
I like the fact that we can do it together as well and it helps me be able to see and understand what she is working on. It is not one of those where I will put her on the tablet and send her to her room. It is a bonding time for her and me, teaching and learning while she is working on it. I would have loved to have this during the Pandemic, and she was stuck at home. I never felt like her actual schoolwork was challenging enough and this helps give her that extra boost to her education without making her feel like all she is doing is schoolwork.
Child Approved
She enjoys working on it, plus it is not so time consuming that she is spending her whole time working on it and not being able to do other things that she enjoys doing.
Final Thoughts
The only thing that I have disliked about Smile Zemi is that it has trouble connecting and keeping connected to our internet. I have not had issues before with any other tablet. With that being said, I have not had any other dislikes about this product. It has performed like it said it would, my child enjoys her time because it makes learning fun and engaging, and it helps reinforce skills she is currently learning at school which only makes her more ahead of the game.
