Head to the Pumpkin Patch With a Toddler - Start a Family Tradition and show children where their food comes from and have a little fun

It’s pumpkin season!

This can be an excellent time of year to show our children exactly where produce comes from. Especially all those big piles of pumpkins they see outside every grocery store. Swore Farms in Eastern Idaho is a family farm where you can obtain local produce year round. This was our first trip to this particular farm, but we have been to different farms and pumpkin patches in years prior.

Why are pumpkin patches a tradition for my family you might ask?

Growing up, my grandparents had a huge garden that all the kids would run through and graze on the various fruits and vegetables. There is something magical about being able to pick produce right off the vine. I have always wanted my daughter to have the same experience so I make a point to visit the pumpkin patch every year!

I knew this year was going to be a little more interesting than last, due to the fact that our daughter is more mobile. Sure enough, she was running through the fields in no time shouting, “Pumpkins, where are you?” This particular pumpkin patch had an array of wagons to take out into the fields, which I was extremely excited about. What kid doesn’t love a good ol’ wagon ride? It made for an enjoyable ride for our toddler and a nice little workout for my husband and me.

Fun at the Pumpkin Patch

There are always plenty of activities to choose from at pumpkin patches no matter the age of your family. It never fails that I see babies, toddlers, teens, dating couples, young families and older families. So go find your local pumpkin patch, pick a pumpkin, get lost in a maze, eat some fresh corn, drink some cider, go on a hayride, or play in a corn kernel pit. But most importantly, just get your family outside and get moving!

Love this! Taking the family to a pumpkin patch sounds like so much fun. I remember running through my grandparents’ garden too. Did your daughter find the perfect pumpkin? And which of those activities did you guys enjoy the most?
