It’s no surprise that coffee shops are a popular spot for locals and visitors vacationing in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. After all, who doesn’t love coffee? There are a number of great local coffee shops to choose from in both towns, so we’ve put together a list of the best coffee shops in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
We’re continuing our Alabama Gulf Coast Flexcation Series, sponsored by Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism, because so many of us these days are combining work and play into an extended vacation. I know while traveling, I regularly seek out local coffee shops to get some work done. Plus I love a great cup of black coffee, so it’s a win-win! Local coffee shops have a certain charm that coffee chains just don’t offer. When you visit my hometown of Oklahoma City, here’s my list of the best coffee shops in OKC Metro.

Coffee Shops – Gulf Shores
Let’s start with coffee shops in Gulf Shores…
Southern Shores Coffee
Let me kick off this list with an independently owned artisan coffee roaster. Southern Shores sources beans from all over the world and roasts them in-house. They carry their own blend of “Bushwacker” coffee. A Bushwacker is unofficially Gulf Shores’ signature drink made with coffee liqueur, Kahlua, and vodka. Of course, the coffee version here is served hot and sans liquor. This coffee shop is a must-visit for coffee lovers!
If you’re not into coffee cocktails, they also have a full coffee menu with espresso drinks, pour-overs, cold brews, and more.
In addition to coffee, Southern Shores also offers an assortment of pastries and sandwiches. They also have a small retail section where you can purchase coffee beans or pods to enjoy in your vacation rental or bring home. They have two locations; one in Gulf Shores and a second in Foley.

Foam Coffee Shop
There’s No Place Like Home – I mean Foam – If you’re looking for a coffee shop with a fun, chic atmosphere, Foam is the place to go. This craft coffee shop has a cool vibe and great outdoor space.
On the coffee menu, they have coffee staples like espresso and cappuccinos, but it’s their lattes that are the stars here. For coffee lovers (like me!), their Shaken Brown Sugar Cinnamon Oatmilk Latte is a hit and for tea drinkers, any of the wellness lattes are a must-try. Foam has a very limited menu like the Avocado Toast (shown above).

The Happy Pappy’s Coffeehouse
The coffee here is fantastic, but it’s a bit off the beaten path. It’s worth the drive, though! The Happy Pappy’s Coffeehouse is a coffee lover’s dream. You’ll want to make a stop at Happy Pappy’s coffee for not only the coffee but the authentic Greek pastries. They also have a light breakfast menu and assortment of including a tiramisu and a chocolate lava cake.

Coffee Shops Orange Beach
Now onto coffee shops in Orange Beach…
The Southern Grind Coffee House & Kitchen
You’ll notice several of the spots on this list of coffee shops that offer both coffee AND food. The Southern Grind Coffee House is no exception. Southern Grind has a great breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, gelato, and a really quaint gift shop. The beachy vibe here is perfect for coffee lovers looking for a relaxed place to hang out.
They have two locations, inside the Hotel Indigo and at The Wharf. Note: If you visit the Wharf location, you can get work done while the family explores the local shops and rides the Ferris wheel. Regardless of which location you choose, order one of the homemade desserts they are known for.

BuzzCatz Coffee & Sweets
BuzzCatz is a place I happily stumbled upon a few years ago after having lunch at Cosmos Restaurant and Bar (highly recommend this too!) and is featured on my must-eat list of Restaurants in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Come here for the homemade baked goods as much as the coffee. Their pastry chef Kimberly makes her own version of a pop tart that you have to try and her cinnamon rolls are divine.
Serving breakfast, lunch, and their version of Happy Hour (Happy Meower with specials on specialty coffees, baked goods, and ice cream).

Work/Play Travel Tip: Although most individuals do not consider visiting the library on vacation or flexcation, the Orange Beach Public Library has stunning views of Wolf Bay. An expansive glass wall faces forward and partitioned workstations provide a comfortable place to work. Alternatively, you may work outdoors on a seat with views of the sea.
There are plenty of coffee shops in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama that serve up fresh coffee and delicious snacks at affordable prices. These are definitely my favorites and I think you should give them a try on your next visit to the area. If you have a local coffee shop along the Alabama Gulf Beaches that didn’t make my list, tell me about it in the comments below. I will add it to my list to try the next time I have a working vacation.
