Take a Hike - Create Your Own Family Adventure with These Free Family Camping Activities

Take a Hike

If there are no local, marked trails, you can just have some fun exploring the woods around your campground. In most cases there is probably a nearby state park or forest that you could take a short drive and then be able to enjoy for free.

Taking a little hike can be a great way for the whole family to engage with nature. Make sure you pack appropriate shoes and clothing for the hike!

While on your hike, go on scavenger hunt and look for items, animals, colors, textures, etc. I have FREE Nature Scavenger Hunt Printable HERE plus snack ideas for your next hike.

Hiking is a great free family camping activity because it allows you to see more than just the commercialized area around your campsite; you can get off the beaten path and really engage with nature. Get a few Tips For Hiking with Kids.

Sports

Finally, if you are a family that is so inclined, you might want to pack some extra sports equipment when you leave for your camping trip. A great free family camping activity is playing sports!

Most campgrounds have a field or open space where you could enjoy a game of football, soccer, or baseball. You could invite the other families around you to enjoy a game with you!

Nothing beats a good game of kickball to break the ice and make introductions a breeze. Your whole family can make some new friends and you will have an entire afternoons activity at absolutely no cost!

Feeding ducks sounds like a blast! I remember doing that on a camping trip. Also, packing a lunch together is a great way to bond. Any other unique activities you’d add?
