Let’s get started with what you can do starting right now.

Send Flowers – Easy But Always Appreciated!

The first way to do it is an age-old practice. You can surprise your mom with an arrangement of flowers. It’s always a good idea to send her some of her favorites that she’ll proudly display in a vase at home. Flowers are indeed a thing of beauty and have long been one of the best gifts for any special occasion.

All you need to do is make arrangements ahead of time regardless of where you are. You can order the flowers online and have them delivered to your mom’s home. It’s that easy and convenient.

You can do this beforehand or even order them and have them delivered the same day. Either way, your mom will love the flowers you get her for Mother’s Day. Who says a gift like this is “out of style”?

Celebrate Virtually

We live in an age where the digital devices we use can connect us in more ways than one. Sure, talking on the phone is one thing. But video chats by way of FaceTime, Zoom, and other platforms will certainly make the celebrations worthwhile.

You can also add a little creativity to the virtual get-together as well. This can include meeting up with family members that happen to be in the area you’re in. It can be a virtual brunch or dinner that all can enjoy with mom, whether she may be hundreds or even thousands of miles away.

Or you two can “share a meal” together. Sure, the physical presence may also be the best. But virtually is an alternative option that can really benefit the both of you – and can knock down those feelings of loneliness that you two feel when you’re not around each other.

It’s each to “cook” for mom with the help of meal delivery service apps like Uber Eats, Grubhub, and DoorDash. These apps offer a convenient way to order food from local restaurants and have it delivered right to her doorstep. If she would prefer to cook with you, then order a fresh meal kit like Hello Fresh or this charcuterie subscription box for the both of you to create together virtually.

Send Something from Where You’re Traveling

If you’re a parent yourself and you have a family vacation around Mother’s Day, here’s something you can do: send them something from where you’re visiting. You and your family may be spending time in the Northeastern United States or a Texas beach. It could be something that your mom would appreciate – even if it’s small like a collectible spoon, a regional cookbook, or something similar.

My mom used to collect destination magnets. So I would pick up a new one when I traveled.

You can even send her a gift basket of all kinds of awesome goodies that you know she’ll love. Take a moment to check out the gift shops wherever you may be vacationing. You might just be able to find something that you can send to her the same day.

Keep in mind that you will of course need to make a trip to a local post office. Have the staff assist you in regards to which packaging to choose, how much it will cost to ship, and more. This will be a lot easier and more convenient, especially if you’re flying home and don’t want to go through security with a whole lot of stuff.

Send a Personalized Video Message

This can be as simple as hitting the record button on your smartphone and filming a video to mom. After it’s done, you send it to her via text or a messaging app you typically contact her with. If you happen to be in a picturesque place like Colorado, then have the mountains as your backdrop.

You can take it a step further and show her where you are. Do a video of you exploring some awesome place and make it look like she’s a part of the experience. We live in the digital age where it’s more than possible to do it.

When doing this video, express your love and gratitude for her. Talk about the many ways you love her. Bring up some of the shared life moments you both experienced together.

Her mind will come flooding back with those memories. It’s always a good idea to talk about the best moments in life that you two have shared together.

Put Together a Care Package

Finally, you can put together a personalized care package with everything your mom will love. This can include a blanket, a candle of her favorite scent, snacks she loves, and so much more. Here’s a Keurig Gift Basket we have done before. Of course, the icing on the cake might be a handwritten letter by you and your children as well (assuming you have a little family of your own).

You can even get the kids involved with putting together the care package as well. It can be a team effort to show your mom how much she is loved and appreciated. This is possible even if you cannot be physically near her because of where you are.

But nevertheless, there’s always that sentimental value. There may be no one better than you that knows what your mom likes in terms of snacks, favorite scents, or anything else. That’s more than enough to make this care package worthwhile for her.

Final Thoughts

Do not miss out on these five ideas that will make the Mother’s Day celebration worth every moment. Even if you won’t be close to each other on this day in particular, you can do your part to make it the best day ever for your mother. It’s always a good idea to make her feel special without the usual taking her out to breakfast or whatever else that is typical for Mother’s Day.

Whether it’s for business or a family vacation, you can make the necessary time to celebrate Mother’s Day when you are somewhere else in the world. Use our suggested list above and make it the best Mother’s Day ever for mom.

This article has some great ideas for celebrating Mother’s Day when you can’t be there in person. Sending flowers is classic and always a hit. I once sent my mom a bouquet of her favorite lilies on Mother’s Day when I was away. It made her day! And virtual celebrations are a wonderful way to connect too. I’m curious, has anyone tried combining both ideas, like sending flowers and then having a virtual chat while she’s enjoying the blooms?
