I’m getting ready for a Halloween party tonight and am charged with bringing a Halloween veggie platter. The party’s hostess is going all out with Halloween-themed food and decorations, but she is trying to limit the sugar.
I’m trying to create a Halloween themed veggie platter that turns everyday vegetables into a spooky, festive feast. Pinterest is always full of good ideas. I found baby carrots dressed up as witch fingers, bell peppers carved like mini jack-o’-lanterns, and cauliflower looking like little ghosts.

I decided to put my own take on a Halloween vegetable tray for this party. I designed a monster and then added hummus and spinach dip. Who doesn’t love veggies and dip?

- Lettuce leaves
- Cucumber slices or spears
- Broccoli florets
- Sweet peppers
- Cherry tomatoes
- Baby carrots
- Olives
- Carrots
- Celery
- Cauliflower
How to Make a Skeleton Veggie Tray
I came across a Cauliflower skull from Mommy on the Money on Pinterest. She created a skull for her vegetable platter using cauliflower florets. What a great idea!
In her post she mentioned it was actually pretty difficult, but how hard could it be? This is what I created:
I’m calling it a Cauliflower monster because I don’t think it looks like a skull. What do you think?
This bad boy took me about 45 minutes of cutting, placing, and re-cutting cauliflower. I built my monster/skull on an inverted bowl (1″ high x 5″ round). I just pieced it together and secured it with toothpicks.
In the end I think it looks like a cross between a skull and a monster. All the florets are held together with toothpicks!
I etched the teeth with the cauliflower stalks.
Although it didn’t turn out exactly as I had imagined, it still makes a healthy Halloween snack.
Once I had the skull done, I just added a variety of fresh veggies around it including carrots, bell peppers, and tomatoes.
I secured the whole thing with cling wrap. Once we got to the party, I served the veggies with fresh spinach dip and hummus.
My little cauliflower monster was an easy Halloween veggie tray that was kid friendly to boot. What are your favorite veggie tray recipes? Do you have other Halloween veggie tray ideas?

What can I say? It’s Halloween so why have boring party food. The dip is great. I also like to serve it on baked potatoes.
