Stay Healthy While Traveling: 5 Things You Shouldn't Leave Home Without

Traveling with the family can be amazing! But it can also be stressful, even when trip is fun!  Stress can weaken our immune systems which increases our chances of getting sick. We all know that being sick when traveling is NEVER fun. To help boost our immune systems, here are 5 things you should pack in your bag to stay healthy while traveling.

  1. Water bottle

First rule of traveling is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. While traveling, it is easy to become dehydrated. Packing a refillable water bottle ensures that you always have water on hand. Many airports have bottle refilling stations once you pass TSA security checkpoints.

  1. Hand Sanitizer/Antimicrobial Wipes

Bad germs are everywhere. Washing your hands is the best way to prevent the spread of germs, but when you travel soap and water aren’t always accessible. Having hand sanitizing wipes or spray is the next best thing. Instead of versions with harsh chemicals, look for wipes or spray with germ killing essential oils such as eucalyptus or thieves oil.

  1. Mineral Sunscreen

Vitamin D helps strengthen and regulate your immune system.  Your body produces vitamin D naturally when it’s exposed to the sunlight. Some research suggests that 5-10 minutes a day, 2-3 times a week is all you need to make adequate amounts of vitamin D. Regardless of the amount, a high quality mineral sunscreen is always needed to protect your skin from sun damage and burns.

  1. Healthy Foods

Help boost your immune system with healthy foods. Avoid sugary foods and opt instead for dark leafy greens, dried fruits, foods rich in Vitamin C, and good source of protein. Packing healthy snacks like dried fruit, vegetable chips, etc. ensures that you eat healthy and avoid unhealthy foods while traveling.

  1. Oral Probiotic You Can Take On-The-Go

Take a daily oral probiotic to prevent illness. Overall health starts in the mouth where healthy bacteria bolster your body’s natural defenses against germs. When traveling, we come into contact with all types of harmful germs. To stay healthy, you need to block bad germs from entering your body.

To stay healthy while traveling, these are 5 things I always pack in my bag. Each helps strengthen and maintain my immune system both before, during, and after a trip.
