Looking for a weekend of fun things to do in Oklahoma City with the family? Pack up the kids and head to “Downtown in December” in the heart of Oklahoma City!

Whether you’re looking to take a free Water Taxi Ride, listen to Christmas carols, or do some last minute shopping, there is lots to do in downtown Oklahoma City. We spent two days exploring all the things to do in Oklahoma City over the holidays.

Holiday Things to Do In Oklahoma City

Like with any of our adventures, ensuring we have a place to put our heads after a full day of fun is a top priority. Our first step in this holiday adventure was to check into our hotel. We stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Bricktown.

Holiday Things to Do In Oklahoma City - the Hampton Inn and Suites Bricktown is a great spot when staying in Downtown OKC

A key advantage to this location is the ability to view the Bricktown Ball Park! Easy access parking garage allows you to drive into and out of Bricktown as often as you like. Other amenities included morning breakfast and a heated indoor pool (kids LOVED that)!

Saturdays With Santa at Devon Tower

Keeping warm and cozy in a heated area focused our attention to the Devon Tower. Devon Energy sponsors “Saturdays with Santa.”

Every Saturday in the Devon Tower, you can enjoy the Holiday Spirit with multiple activities. Meet Ginger Bread People, Snowmen, and even have a story with Mrs. Claus! The foyer area is packed with entertainment from local musicians. Families have several activities in Santa’s Workshop. When you’re finished making Christmas decorations take a ride on the Christmas Train!

My favorite station is the Stuff a Bear Station. You and your family have the opportunity to help a “child in need” have a Teddy Bear for Christmas.

Outdoor Ice Skating & Shopping

The Christmas spirit doesn’t stop inside the Devon Tower, it expands throughout the downtown area. The Myriad Garden Park transforms in December! Devon’s Saturday with Santa extends to outdoor Ice Skating.

Ice Skating outside in Downtown Oklahoma City was truly magical for our family. We enjoyed every minute of it!

Afterwards, we spent a little time shopping at the Winter Shops nearby. Each December, local shops have small building shops in the park to allow visitors to view and purchase holiday gifts. While shopping, the kids can take a ride on the famous Carousel. Need a warm beverage? The local Food Trucks have you covered with easy access to food and beverages!

Local Eats

The smell from the food trucks got our own appetite stirring.

With all the morning activity, my teenager and his siblings insisted that lunch had to be accomplished immediately! While there are lots of fantastic eats in Bricktown, we stopped at Earl’s Rib Palace for a Family Feast.

A slab of ribs, three sandwiches, and a few sides later, the family was fueled up and ready to the hit the slopes!

Snowtubing at the Brick

Snow tubing at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark is truly a treat! The ballpark creates Snow Tube slopes for the whole family to enjoy.

Our arrival coincided with the on-going OSU and OU game, so the crowds were minimal. As a result, the kids got to ride almost non-stop down the slopes! Parents don’t worry. The park has you covered.

There are plenty of activities inside and heating stations at each activity. Take a picture with Santa, make a decoration, or take a picture in a sleigh, there is lots to do in the Bricktown Ballpark.

Lyric's theater set up for A Christmas Carol

Christmas Carole at Lyric Theater

After taking a short break from the Bricktown Ballpark, we headed to the Plaza District to experience A Christmas Carole at the Lyric Theater.

But wait! Did someone say Pie? You can’t visit the Plaza District in OKC without stopping into Pie Junkie. What a supper treat! Pie Junkie has been a staple of OKC for many years now. Their Holiday Pies have become quite famous. Pie cravings subsided, we walked over to the Lyric Theater to enjoy the show.

The cast provided a wonderful performance of A Christmas Carole. After the show, the cast gathered donations for the local Food Bank in the lobby.

The spectacular performance was quite the talk at breakfast the next morning. The kids and I discussed the other offerings of Oklahoma City and developed a plan to do a little more shopping and see a few more activities.

Holiday Pop-Up Shops in Oklahoma City

If you’re going to experience Downtown OKC, you have to work your way north a few streets to the Mid-Town Plaza. In addition to some fantastic food opportunities, you have to stop by and visit the Holiday Pop-Up Shops.

Holiday Pop Up Shops let you shop more local businesses and vendors -

More locally run businesses use this location to offer holiday shopping to the area. Need a tree? You can find one there too!

Right next door is the famous Blue Garten. This local food stop is famous for their collection of food truck vendors ready to serve the community!

Oklahoma City Architectural Tour

Venturing further north, we took a relaxing ride through the Heritage Hills Historic District. These beautiful homes and Mansions allow you to see some amazing architecture. The Overholster Mansion provides an annual Holiday Mysteries Tour on 15 December. Don’t forget to take an opportunity to spot the painted Buffalo!

Christmas Caroling

After looking for painted buffalo for most of the day, we concluded our adventure with the holiday sounds of “A Canterbury Christmas” provided by the Canterbury Choir at the Civic Center Music Hall. The lobby was filled with decorations, a giant tree, and another visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus! The choir was joined by the bell ringers. What an amazing addition!

After intermission, the audience joined the singers in a few Christmas Carols. The conclusion of the performance wasn’t the end of the evening. A reception in the lobby allowed interaction with choir members and the audience. Cookies and Punch for all!

Our weekend stay in Downtown OKC provided another wonderful adventure right in our own backyard. Whether you reside in Oklahoma, or are visiting from another state, spend downtown in December in Oklahoma City.
