Being loaded down with gear on a hike can be really annoying, right? I sure know that I don’t like it. So I’m all for hiking gear that can help lighten my load, and that’s exactly what these 2-in-1 trekking poles from Purtrek do.

Purtrek’s complete trekking pole system is a versatile and user-friendly option for hikers who want hiking poles that can do more than just provide support on the trail. With built-in water filtration, these poles are perfect for hikers and backpackers who want to be able to drink from any water source they come across while on the trail.

I tested out these Purtrek poles on a recent hike and I have to say, they definitely made my life easier. Not only were the poles themselves lightweight and easy to carry, but having the built-in water filter was really helpful. When it comes to what to pack for a day hike or longer,  I didn’t have to worry about packing extra water. Here’s a closer look at the features that make these hiking poles stand out from the rest.

Versatile 2-in-1 Hiking Poles

The Purtrek complete trekking pole system is the first of its kind to include an integrated water filtration system. One pole has the integrated water filtration system and the other is a standard trekking pole that has been weighted to match the filtration pole. This makes them easy to carry and gives you the option to use either pole as your hiking staff.

Both poles are made with a combination of lightweight 7075 aircraft aluminum and high-strength plastic with aluminum locking tabs and high-strength polymer plastic collars. Each has telescoping shafts for height adjustment up to 53″ and collapses down to 36″ for easy storage in the included carry bag. The main pole (with water filter) can be collapsed even further to 26″ and fit easily in a bag when traveling internationally.

The filtration pole’s two-stage filtration system uses a series of seals, valves, and O-rings to ensure clean drinking water. A large particulate pre-filter is located on the pole’s lower section and a high-quality Micro Hollow Fiber Filter is at the top. The Hollow Fiber filter removes 99.999% of waterborne bacteria, including E. coli and salmonella, and 99.99% of waterborne protozoa, including giardia and cryptosporidium.

The system delivers almost 2-times more water per pump than its competitors and filters up to 528 gallons per filter (2,000 liters).

To use the water filtration system, simply unscrew the cap at the top of the pole, open the valve around the lower pre-filter, dip the filter end into a water source, and pump. The hollow fiber membrane filters out bacteria and protozoa. The included plastic water tube makes it easy to add water to any water bottle or bladder.

Purtrek Pole Review

Water filtration – I found the water filtration system really easy to use after I learned how to use them and it worked great. I was surprised at how much water was filtered with each pull. I was able to fill up my water bottle quickly and easily without having to worry about the water being clean. The company says it will filter 2 liters in a minute and I found that to be true.

Thanks to this hiking pole system, I no longer have a need to carry extra water with me when I hike. And that’s a huge plus because it means I can carry less weight on my hikes.

Best of all, I didn’t have to crouch down at the water’s edge to filter my water. The Purtrek poles made it easy to reach the water while standing up and pump it right into my bottle or drink from the tube.

Telescoping poles – The telescoping poles were also really helpful. I’m not the tallest person (5’2″), but the tallest person in my family is 6′. I often just keep my hiking poles in the car and everyone can use them when we go on hikes. With these poles, I can adjust the length of each pole to fit whoever is using them.

Lightweight & sturdy– The other feature that I really liked about these hiking poles was how lightweight they were.  I didn’t even notice them when I was carrying them and they didn’t add any extra weight to my pack.  But, even though they’re lightweight, they’re also really sturdy. I felt confident using them on uneven terrain and I never felt like they were going to break.

Comfortable to use – The grips were comfortable to hold and the straps kept my hands from getting tired. The poles themselves were also the perfect size – not too big or small.

Overall, I was really impressed with these Purtrek hiking poles. They made my hikes a lot easier and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good pair of trekking poles. If you are in the market for a new pair of poles, I would highly recommend giving these a try!

These Purtrek 2-in-1 trekking poles sound like a game-changer! The built-in water filter is genius. I once had to carry extra water on a hike and it was a pain. With these poles, that problem’s solved. How long does the filter last? And are they as durable as they seem?
