Instead of sitting in the famous coffee shop’s drive-thru line, save yourself time and the added expense. You can make your own coffee shop-inspired drinks at home for a fraction of the cost. Pair this iced mocha with Starbucks Egg Bites you make in the Instant Pot instead of a sous vide machine. Together they are a great way to start the day or give you a needed mid-afternoon energy boost.
What is in a Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha?
An iced white chocolate mocha, also called an Iced White Mocha, at Starbucks includes espresso, milk, and white chocolate sauce. It can also include whipped cream on top for an added touch of deliciousness. My Iced White Mocha doesn’t stray too far from the original recipe either and is made with these same ingredients!
Note: If you prefer dark chocolate over white, substitute that and create a homemade Starbucks Caffè Mocha.
Does a White Chocolate Mocha have coffee in it?
Yes, an iced mocha has coffee in it. The original Starbucks version calls for 2 cups of their Signature Espresso Roast, a dark roast bean. However, I really like the coffee I’ve been getting from Atlas Coffee Club. This mail subscription service sends coffee from all over the world, so you can sample different flavors and roasts.
So for my iced mocha I like to use a light roast bean in order to get a milder and less bitter flavor. Instant coffee also works if you have it. Give it a try! You might just find your new favorite drink! 🙂
A 16 oz cup contains two shots of espresso for a total of 150mg of caffeine. At home, your mocha’s caffeine amount will vary depending on the coffee bean you use. If you want less caffeine, you can use decaffeinated coffee.
Don’t worry if you don’t have an espresso machine
If you don’t have an espresso machine, don’t worry. It’s still possible to make this delicious espresso drink without one! The best substitution is to use instant espresso powder. If your coffee maker has a concentrated brew feature like the Ninja Coffee Brew System I have does, that would be the next best option. Make sure to visit Coffeeness to review the best coffee makers available. Otherwise, you can use cold brew coffee or cold leftover brewed coffee. This method results in a less intense flavor, but the coffee drink is still refreshing.
Milk
The original coffee shop version of this mocha recipe calls for 2% milk. I prefer whole milk and almond milk in this recipe, but you can use whatever milk – oat milk, coconut, or other non-dairy beverage you like here.
White Chocolate Sauce
I like to use the Torani white chocolate sauce for ease of use. I find it in either the coffee section or the ice cream toppings area of the grocery store.
Homemade White Chocolate Sauce – If you want to create your own white chocolate sauce, here’s a simple recipe:
- Heat 1/2 cup of milk over medium heat in a small saucepan. Stir constantly with a whisk until steam starts to rise.
- Remove from the heat and add 2 Tablespoons of white chocolate chips and whisk together until combined. If chocolate doesn’t melt completely, you can return it to a slow heat being careful not to burn the mixture.
- Cool slightly before use.
Homemade Whipped Cream
For the whipped cream, I use this ISI Gourmet Whipped Cream Maker. I add 1/2 pint of heavy cream and attach the nitrous oxide charger for freshly whipped cream without stabilizers or added sugar. For the sweetened whipped cream, I add a tablespoon of sugar to the cream before adding it to the device.
