Planning a 4-day camping trip with your family? I’ve got some great camping menu ideas for you right here! AND to make things easier for you, I have a printable grocery list, camp kitchen packing list, and daily meal planner with recipes here too.
I’ve partnered with Head Country BBQ to create this easy camping menu because camping is one of the greatest ways to spend time together as a family and the best memories are often created around the table with food. But it can be time-consuming to come up with, plan out, and cook all your camping meals.

That’s the beauty of this menu. It takes some of the work out of camp cooking, and provides you more time to enjoy your family and nature! Best of all, this menu has simple, classic camp recipes that are so delicious!
4 Day Camping Trip Menu
Camping is all about making memories and enjoying nature. And your children will remember their favorite camping meals for a lifetime… My kids love it when we camp because they know we’re going to eat some of their favorite meals. They get so excited about camping and heading out on the trail, but they think it’s even better if they get to eat their favorite camping foods like cheeseburgers, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, s’mores, and trail snacks/lunch boxes. And who can blame them?
Head Country BBQ is dedicated to helping family and friends come together over great food. They have been making BBQ great here in Oklahoma for nearly 75 years. Their sauces and seasonings provide several options for creating amazing meals cooked over the open fire. I am a huge fan of Head Country’s products, especially their Apple Habanero sauce and Championship Seasoning in Original that I use as a general, all-purpose seasoning at home and while camping too.
When we camp, I like to plan our meals around common ingredients and seasonings to save on space and pack less “stuff.” So in this menu, I use Head Country BBQ Championship Seasoning in Original and/or Original BBQ Sauce in many of the recipes; BBQ Cheeseburgers, Breakfast Skillet, Semi-homemade BBQ Beans, Tropical Chicken Hobo Packet, Roasted Potatoes, and BBQ Chicken Wraps.
How do you check the temperature of a campfire?
“How do you know what temperature the fire is?” is one of the most common questions I’m asked. Since this menu uses a campfire or a grill to cook over, I wanted to offer a quick “how-to” here.
Hand Temperature Test
To check the temperature of your campfire, you can utilize the hand test. Hold your hand about 3 inches above the cooking area (camp grate, grill surface, coals, etc.) and count how long you can keep your hand there before it becomes too hot.
Reference this temperature chart below for the level of heat:
- When you can only hold your hand for less than 3 seconds, the fire is hot. This temperature is great for boiling water quickly for coffee, searing meat, etc.
- Hold your hand for 3-5 seconds, it’s at medium temperature and you can use this to cook most things.
- If you can hold your hand longer than 7 seconds, this will keep your food warm. At this temperature, consider adding more wood or coals if you are cooking more food.

What’s Inside This Menu For Camping
You’ll have everything you need for 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 3 dinners on hand without having to worry about packing too much or forgetting something important. Plus, these recipes are all made from ingredients (like Head Country Original BBQ Sauce and Championship Seasoning in Original) that are easy to find at any grocery store.
*Note: This family-friendly camping menu is designed for 4 hungry adults starting with dinner on day 1 and continuing through breakfast on day 4.
We’ll go through how to make your favorite foods and munchies that are simple to carry and prepare. The handy shopping list makes it easy for you to pick up the ingredients from your local shop before setting out. What’s the best part? You may make some of these dishes in advance at home.
So get ready, pack up your supplies, and enjoy some great family time together outdoors!
This menu includes some of our favorite camping meals that we consider camp classics. All recipes can be cooked over the fire/grill or cooked in a skillet/pan on a camp stove. So you don’t have to worry about buying special camp equipment in order to prepare these delicious meals.
Camping Breakfasts:
Breakfast Skillet -This is an easy egg scramble with breakfast sausage, bell pepper, and sweet potato seasoned with Head Country Championship Seasoning in Original.
Eggs in a Hole Toast and fresh fruit – An egg in a hole is just an egg fried in the middle of the bread. I use sourdough bread and grill it up on the pan over hot coals.
Yogurt with granola and fresh fruit – Kids love to mix and match this no-cook breakfast option. I like to serve a cold breakfast on the last day so I don’t have to worry about extinguishing the fire before we pack up and head out.
Camping Lunches:
Shredded BBQ Chicken Tortilla Wraps, Coleslaw, and Corn Chips – Save time by precooking at home or buying pre-shredded chicken at the store. Store in a food storage container or bag with BBQ sauce so it’s ready to serve. Coleslaw travels and stores really well in the cooler. So you can make your favorite coleslaw recipe at home or buy a coleslaw mix at the store. I like to add the coleslaw to the chicken in the wrap like I serve my Carolina Pulled Pork Sliders, but you can opt to serve alongside if you prefer.
Trail Snack boxes – Outdoor versions of “Lunchables” make great on-the-go lunch ideas. Add your favorite cheese cubes or slices, hummus, raw vegetables, nuts, and dried fruit.
Camping Dinners:
Grilled BBQ Cheeseburgers, Roasted BBQ Potato Foil Packets, Coleslaw, and Strawberry Stuffed S’mores – My kids ask for these cheeseburgers and potatoes every time I fire up the grill! I add BBQ sauce and dry seasoning to the meat before grilling for a flavor punch. Bonus: You can pack less because there’s no need to pack a bunch of hamburger condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.)
The roasted potatoes are roasted in a foil packet with BBQ seasoning, dried thyme, and drizzled with oil. I use fingerling or baby potatoes because they cook faster.
I like to serve coleslaw alongside burgers. You can make your own favorite slaw recipe, try my copycat recipe for Rudy’s BBQ Coleslaw, or buy a premade or bagged version at the store. Just be sure that you have enough for dinner tonight and lunch on day 2.
Strawberry stuffed s’mores are made with roasted marshmallows with a strawberry inside. The strawberry gets warm and gooey inside before being added to the chocolate and graham cracker. If you don’t like strawberries, just omit and enjoy traditional s’mores instead.
Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dogs, Semi-homemade BBQ Beans, Chocolate Cake in Oranges – Everything’s better with bacon, so what’s not to love in this deconstructed version of Franks and Beans. For the hot dogs, I like to use roasting sticks (like the one in the s’mores picture above) to secure the bacon to the hot dog and roast over the campfire. Kids love this too! If you don’t have roasting sticks, you can use toothpicks or metal skewers to secure the bacon and grill over the fire.
For the BBQ beans, I add Head Country Original BBQ Sauce and dry seasoning, plus brown sugar and garlic for a killer semi-homemade BBQ beans side. You can make these ahead at home too and just reheat at the campsite!
For dessert, bake a chocolate cake in an orange. It’s a creative way to make individual desserts that everyone will love! Some people like to use a boxed cake mix, but I find that a single mug cake recipe works really well too. Note: if you want to make the cake at home, place the cake batter in a microwave-safe container and microwave for 90 seconds.
Pineapple BBQ Chicken Hobo Packets and Banana Boats – This dinner is a one-pot dinner cooked in individual foil packets. Every member of the family can add their combination of chicken, squash, peppers, and pineapple to their packet and top with a sweet and tangy marinade made with Head Country original BBQ sauce, pineapple juice, and additional spices. Foil packets are real crowd-pleasers with easy cleanup.
For dessert, it’s another foil packet for easy cooking cleanup. Banana boats are bananas split open, topped with chocolate, mini marshmallows, and graham crackers and cooked inside the banana peel wrapped in foil. Kids love these!
