ALASKA BY LAND AND SEA
I think Alaska with its’ majestic beauty and rich wildlife should be your family’s number one destination this summer. Alaska is one of the top multigenerational family vacation spots this summer for cruisers with departures from San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver.
With 1.65 million tourists planning to visit this summer, according to Travel Alaska, over half of them will be arriving on 60 large and small cruise ships. You may be surprised to learn that Carnival brands, including Princess, Holland America, Carnival, Seabourn, and Cunard, represent about a third of these ships from the Lower 48 states.
Each cruise line has its perks that make them stand out, such as complimentary youth programs for families (except Seabourne) or a unique experience for all. Plus, some cruises even offer the fantastic opportunity for kids to sail for free!
Visit Denali National Park
Beyond the breathtaking ocean view lies stunning inland beauty. You can explore on your own or book a land excursion offered exclusively by Holland America and Princess cruise lines. Holland America has been exploring Alaska for 75 years and is the only cruise line that brings cruisers directly to the Yukon and Denali National Park.
Meanwhile, Princess offers seamless cruise tours to Denali that include stays at their luxurious Princess Wilderness Lodges. Seven Princess ships are cruising to Alaska this year. If you’re feeling adventurous, join the Princess Alaska Nature & Adventure Cruise on September 6-13 and sail with famous wildlife biologist and TV personality Jeff Corwin. He will also lead special Discovery Channel shore excursions for families. So book your adventure today and discover Alaska like never before!
Luxury Experience
For a more intimate and indulgent adventure, embark on one of Seabourn’s all-inclusive luxury experiences. Their Ventures by Seabourn Program has everything you need to relish every moment of your journey.
Cunard’s revamped English Tea is now infused with a thrilling Alaskan twist! What’s more, they have partnered with the renowned Royal Canadian Geographical Society, bringing you expert guides on every cruise.
Land Excursions
If you prefer to stay on land, explore one of the many excursions or guided tours offered. In Seward, you can take a marine life cruise, go kayaking alongside glaciers, or go saltwater fishing in Resurrection Bay or freshwater fishing nearby on the Kenai River.
Ketchikan is the perfect spot for a cultural experience. Join a tour of Chief Johnson’s Totem Park, where you can learn about local history and culture from a Tlingit tribal member. And if you’re feeling even more adventurous, take a flightseeing tour over Denali or hop on an ATV and ride the rugged terrain of Alaska’s wilderness.
NEVER TOO HOT FOR HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS
This popular summer destination near me in the Ouachita Mountains of central Arkansas is full of family activities that tweens and teens especially enjoy. Unwind in Hot Springs, AR with its historic hot spring baths, mountain bike trails, and watersports on Lake Catherine or Lake Hamilton.
This area is home to the Hot Springs National Park and the Hot Springs Mountain Tower, Arkansas’s tallest observatory, with its observation deck at 216 feet above ground. There, you can soak in stellar 360˚ views of Arkansas’s stunning scenery.
The area’s hiking trails offer scenic routes for all skill levels. Several trails can be found inside city limits including one directly behind Bathhouse Row. For stunning vistas, head up the mountain on the Sunset Trail or the Goat Rock Trail. The Ouachita National Forest features over 200 miles of multi-use trails and the Northwoods Trail System, with over 31 miles of green, blue, and black mountain biking trails through some of the most rugged terrains in the Central US. Northwoods has been voted the best trails in the state by riders two years in a row.
Take a ranger tour through the historic Fordyce bathhouse, one of the original bathhouses. Admire Victorian architecture and hip businesses as you walk the historic Bathhouse Row downtown. After a long day of hiking or mountain biking, soak your tired muscles in the thermal waters of one of the area’s bathhouses like the Quapaw Bathhouse which offers wellness treatments for guests ages 14 and older.
Cool off with a dip in Lake Hamilton or Lake Catherine, popular spots for swimming, boating, and watersports. The kids will love the water slides and splash areas at Magic Springs Theme and Water Park. And a short drive away, try your hand at quartz mining.
BE SMART ABOUT YOUR TRAVEL PLANS
Don’t let unexpected incidents ruin your trip – protect your investment with travel insurance! Whether it’s a missed flight or a medical emergency, travel insurance can save the day and make all the difference.
If you’re planning a cruise, beware of the cruise line’s waiver. While it may offer credits for cancellations, it won’t reimburse your pre-paid expenses in cash like travel insurance will.
If you love traveling but don’t want the stress of worrying about unexpected problems, travel insurance is the way to go! With the right policy, you won’t need to worry about medical costs or finding a qualified doctor or hospital in an unfamiliar place. Plus, it can even get you home safely if needed!
But that’s not all – travel insurance can also save you money if you experience lengthy delays during your travels, and can reimburse you for lost or stolen luggage. That’s why investing in a top-flight travel insurance policy, such as the plans offered by Allianz, can make all the difference.
With Allianz, you can find policies that allow you to cancel at any time , and even insure kids for free when traveling with a parent or grandparent. So don’t let unexpected events derail your trip – protect yourself with the help of Allianz travel insurance today!
Don’t forget to give your insurance policy a thorough read! With Allianz, you’ll have a generous 15-day window to either swap your plan or cancel it altogether and receive a full refund if it’s not the perfect fit for you. That’s insurance with some real peace of mind.
CAMPING AND THE RV LIFE THIS SUMMER
Camping these days is more than just pitching a tent and sleeping on the hard ground. Today, camping is all about getting out and enjoying the great outdoors in a variety of ways.
According to the just-released KOA 2023 North American Camping Report, about 80% of campers plan to try a new, unfamiliar form of camping – glamping, camper vanning, RVing, etc. The study also found campers want to travel for natural events (40%), plus food tourism and culinary experiences (36%). A growing number also report working while camping, so good Wi-Fi is essential.

Best Places to Find Campsites
With the popularity of camping and RVing, reservations are key. Campgrounds, especially in national parks, book up early. Get our tips on camping in national parks here before booking your stay on Recreation.gov.
RVC Outdoor Destinations and Campspot are two great booking sites to check out. RVC’s campgrounds for tent camping and RVs feature top amenities and activities like pool parties, disc golf, watch tours, plus access to lakes and rivers for fishing, paddle boarding and more.
Campspot – the largest booking site for private campgrounds in North America – released the winners of its 2023 Campspot Awards to inspire families to get and stay outdoors (affordably!) this summer. Check out their list of the best campgrounds in each region plus reviews from fellow campers.
To find a great spot without reservations, Hipcamp can also help you find nearby campsites with full hookups, and ReserveAmerica lists thousands of state and federal recreation areas.
Experience the ultimate luxury vacation with glamping resorts that offer yoga, on-site restaurants, and more! You’ll be amazed by the upscale amenities available at some “glamping” locales that rival even the most popular resorts. Take The Resort at Paws Up in Greenough, Montana, for example, where our platform tent came with a personal butler and a real bathtub. Treat yourself to a truly lavish getaway and book your glamping adventure today!
Under Canvas glamping sites continue to grow with a new glamping resort in Moab, Utah. They offer luxury glamping accommodations with a variety of activities. Other locations include Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, and the Great Smoky Mountains.
One fun glamping location near us here in Oklahoma City is Orr Family Fun. Within the city limits, guests can stay in air-conditioned canvas-covered wagons or canvas teepees while enjoying the family-friendly atmosphere of the farm.
RV Rentals
If you’re looking for an adventure that involves nature but still provides some creature comforts, then RVing might be right up your alley. With its integrated kitchen, bathroom, and comfortable beds, RVing is also at an all-time high.
Those who don’t own an RV can take their pick of RVs with a peer-to-peer RV rental company like RVShare which is who we use. You can arrange to pick up the RV near you and drive to your location or have it delivered and set up on-site. Here are some helpful questions to ask to determine what RV is right for you.
If you prefer to avoid big RV parks and focus on free, primitive camping or setting up your tent in a local park? Use our guide to various camping styles to understand all the options. Kampgrounds of America (KOA), Jellystone Campgrounds, and other national chains are also an option, with thousands of locations in the U.S. and Canada offering options ranging from cabins to yurts.
Campgrounds to Check Out
Minnesota state park campgrounds are especially popular this summer, offering scenic lake and forest views. Several of the parks offer full-service camping with modern amenities while others offer more canoe camping options with primitive sites and backcountry access.
At Autocamp Joshua Tree indulge in sommelier-led wine tastings and get insight from knowledgable desert ecologists on staff while you relax in stylish and comfortable Airstreams. There are other Autocamps across the country- from Asheville, SC to Cape Cod, MA to the Hill Country in Texas and Zion, Utah, all featuring accommodations in modern Airstream Suites.
Moab, Utah is a great destination for families seeking adventure, with amazing landscapes and plenty of outdoor activities with its proximity to Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Dead Horse State Park. Here are 5 RV parks near Moab to check out.
PUERTO RICO’S BETTER THAN EVER
This stunning Caribbean island is the hottest tropical destination of the season without a passport. With its unique Latin culture, vibrant nightlife, and world-famous puertorriqueno cuisine, you’ll feel like you’ve traveled to Spain without the stress of international travel.
This US territory uses US dollars and has a high level of English and Spanish fluency, making it easy to navigate. Plus, since it’s part of the US, there’s no need for a passport or international phone plan.
But that’s just the beginning of what makes Puerto Rico a must-visit destination. With temperatures between 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit and nearly 300 gorgeous beaches, it’s perfect for anyone seeking beautiful weather and stunning scenery.
And if you’re an active family looking for adventures in Puerto Rico, you are covered with ziplining, cave explorations, hiking, kayaking through bioluminescent bays, and more – including the only rainforest in the US Forest System, El Yunque!
Best of all, you won’t have to break the bank to enjoy all that Puerto Rico has to offer. Book a well-priced resort and get ready to embark on a magical vacation that you’ll never forget!
The Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico is touting a fourth night free and the biggest lagoon-style pool on the island. This summer, the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar is offering a fifth night free, a room upgrade, and $50 resort food credit.

NATIONAL PARKS VACATION
Are you looking to explore the great outdoors this summer with your fourth grader? Good news, you may have a free family pass through Every Kid Outdoors family pass! To make the most of your pass, consider choosing a lesser-known national park that you and your family can enjoy without the crowds and hassle of timed-entry reservations. Let your child create the itinerary and have fun discovering the beauty of nature in an off-the-beaten-track park.
Travel Tip: If you don’t have a 4th grader, see how you can receive discounted or free admission to US National Parks here.
Acadia, Arches, Glacier, Rocky Mountain, and Zion National Parks are among the national parks requiring Timed Entry passes. All timed entry permit reservations need to be purchased ahead of time from Recreation.gov and cost $2 per vehicle.
The National Parks System has lesser known parks that offer unparalleled beauty and fewer crowds. Some of our favorite sites include Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado, Lassen Volcanic National Park in Northern California, and Congaree National Park in South Carolina. All of these parks offer great landscapes for hiking, biking, sightseeing, camping, and other outdoor activities.
LESSER KNOWN PARKS TO VISIT
Grand Canyon West is a good alternative to other national parks and is just a few hours’ drive from the Grand Canyon National Park. This million-acre “park” is on Hualapai tribal land and was developed by them for tourism? Be sure you experience the thrilling Skywalk, a 10-foot wide glass bridge extending 70 feet out over the Grand Canyon’s west rim. The views from the bridge are incredible!
Head to Deception Pass State Park, near Seattle, to be mesmerized by its towering bridge and dramatic cliffs. Make a splash with fishing, swimming, and camping at Cranberry Lake. While you’re here, why not indulge in a little bird-watching and seal-spotting in gorgeous Puget Sound? Plus, don’t miss out on the unique opportunity to explore Kiket Island’s Kukutali Preserve, co-owned and co-managed by the incredible Swinomish Indian Tribal Community.

Or take your adventure to the next level and head to the secluded Isle Royale National Park in the middle of Lake Superior. Accessible only by boat or seaplane, this breathtaking destination boasts 400 islands to discover. Get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey and discover some of the most beautiful and less-traveled destinations in the U.S.!
FORT MYERS & SANIBEL- FLORIDA’S UNSPOILED SANCTUARY
Come experience the stunning Gulf Coast region of Fort Myers, where you’ll be surrounded by over 100 beautiful barrier and offshore islands. Whether you prefer the convenience of a quick drive or a short flight, this is the perfect summer vacation spot for the whole family to enjoy. You’ll love soaking up the sun on the beach, exploring the magical mangroves by kayak or paddleboard, and so much more.
And here’s the best part: you can feel good knowing that your visit supports sustainable tourism at these fragile destinations. To welcome back guests following Hurricane Ian (Set 2022), you can find great deals on hotels and lodging with 20% off rack rates, 3rd Night Free and other summer discount offers.
The barrier island of Sanibel and its’ J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge are the place to experience the wonders of this untouched paradise and the resilience of Mother Nature. Visit the Wonder Gardens in Bonita Springs for an unforgettable encounter with a variety of rescued and rehabilitated animals. From Florida Alligators and Flamingos to colorful macaws, pythons, turtles, and tortoises, you can support their care and learn more about these fascinating creatures. And if you need a rainy day beach activity, why not explore the winter homes of famous inventors Thomas Edison and Henry Ford? Marvel at antique cars and inventions, and let your kids discover the wonders of science and history in a fun way.
FREDERICKSBURG IS A CIVIL WAR MONUMENT
Looking for a fun mid-Atlantic road trip destination between Richmond and D.C.? Historic Fredericksburg is jam-packed with 19th-century highlights, including the Fredericksburg Battlefield, part of the Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.
Interested in the Civil War? Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania all played important roles in the bloody climax of the war. And get this: The infamous Confederate victory at Fredericksburg was just devastating. 100,000 men were wounded or killed! You can also pay your respects to Union soldiers killed in the region. More Union soldiers are buried here at the Fredericksburg National Cemetery than anywhere else the Civil War was fought.
Step back in time in historic Fredericksburg! Explore countless craft and antique shops, dine in beautifully-restored 18th and 19th-century buildings, and take in the charming downtown scene on foot.
If you’re looking for a place to stay, the Homewood Suites Fredericksburg has got you covered with king bed studios, free WiFi, breakfast for the whole crew, and an awesome outdoor pool for only $170/night this June.
And don’t miss out on the fascinating Washington Heritage Museums, four spots related to none other than President George Washington who grew up there. For an even more immersive experience, follow the Trail to Freedom and hear the incredible stories of former slaves.
ADVENTURES WITH GROWN KIDS
It’s not just little kids dragging their parents to new places anymore – adult children are getting in on the fun too! Whether it’s checking out a local brewery, hitting up a trendy club, or exploring a pop-up restaurant scene, grown-up kids are choosing to travel with their folks.
Even cruise lines and travel companies are getting in on the trend, offering trips specifically designed for parents and their young adult offspring. A fellow travel writer even met some mother-daughter combos on a recent adults-only Virgin Voyages cruise!
TakingtheKids did a Backroads bike trip with a daughter and son-in-law, using a river cruise as a floating hotel. So if you’re looking for a unique way to bond with your adult children, why not plan a trip together?
GOLF LIKE A PRO NO MATTER YOUR AGE
With its non-contact nature and mental health benefits, golf is becoming increasingly popular among young players. And what could be better than planning a multigenerational golf vacation with your loved ones?
Before you take the plunge and invest in gear and lessons, why not try out the sport at a local putting green? For a more intensive experience, consider signing up for a day class at a US Sports Camp near you for ages 5 and up. Don’t miss out on the excitement and relaxation of golf – it’s the perfect way to bond with family and reap the mental and physical benefits of this classic sport.
Rates at several high-end resorts in the hot weather climates of Florida, Hawaii and Arizona, actually fall in the summer months.
We’ve rounded up the top 11 resorts that become some of the top family golf resorts in the country offering kids’ camps, specialized academies, and family clinics that bring everyone together for summer fun. Some of these resorts also offer free golf for kids!
At select Marriott locations, children 15 and under can play for free after 3pm – with free clubs and a lesson – when accompanied by a paying adult. And at the Hilton Waikoloa, ages 6-17 can play 9 holes together after 3pm for only $25 with free club rentals. Follow our tips on how to teach your kids golf while you’re there and make unforgettable memories!
HOUSEBOATS AND VOLCANOES IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
Looking for a chill family vacation? Try house boating! Lake Shasta in Redding, California is the perfect spot to set sail and explore Shasta Caverns. Think of these floating homes as giant RVs on twin pontoons, ranging from 44-75 feet long and sleeping up to 12 people.
Lake Shata is thriving after the West’s heavy spring rains, so there are plenty of watersports to keep you cool in the summer heat (daily average 99°F and 63°F average at night). For a great deal, check out Holiday Harbor Marina’s value weeks from June 7-20 or Aug. 4-17. After Aug. 18 rates drop even more!
Head to Lassen Volcanic National Park, just 47 miles west of Redding for a fiery hot adventure! It’s a hidden gem that’s less crowded than other parks, but still jaw-dropping if you’re into lava. Take a mini-road trip by driving the 50-mile highway to the north entrance (Volcano Peak Scenic Byway) or enter south from Volcano Legacy Highway.
The park’s snow-capped, dormant Mount Lassen keeps things cool, but you’ll feel the heat with 30 miles of scenic trails across pumice fields, glacial lakes, and bubbling smoke pots. Start your day early to beat the heat, log some miles on all-ability hiking trails, and cool off with a dip in Manzanita Lake or Lake Helen.
LIGHTS, CAMERA, AND ACTION
Los Angeles is the place to be right now, thanks to a record rainfall that’s turned the city into a lush and beautiful paradise. Families are coming in droves, excited to experience all the glitz and glamour that LA has to offer.
You absolutely can’t miss the iconic Hollywood Sign, which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year and has been freshly painted just for the occasion. It’s at the top of our 2023 Must-See List, and you won’t want to miss it!
Take a drive up to the Griffith Observatory to experience the best views of LA and the Hollywood Sign. Get there early in the morning or late evening to beat the heat on the trails here, and cool off with a visit inside their climate-controlled Planetarium.
For some movie magic, head to nearby Burbank and Universal Studios Hollywood. This isn’t your ordinary theme park – it’s an interactive experience that puts you in the middle of the action! Take a tour behind-the-scenes to get VIP access to sets, costumes, and props from some of your favorite films. And if you’re feeling brave, try out one of their thrilling rides like Jurassic Park or Revenge of The Mummy.
Also, get tickets to experience the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in Burbank. This is your chance to sit in the driver’s seat of the Batmobile, sit on the Friends Central Perk couch, sit under the Sorting Hat, and get a peek into how Hollywood brings their stories to life.
MAINE EATS, TREATS AND SHOPS
When you visit Maine, make sure you indulge in some of the nation’s sweetest treats – wild blueberries! This state is actually the top supplier of them in the country, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy them while you’re here. Get your fix of blueberries in pancakes, syrup, ice cream, or pie – you name it!
But speaking of tasty food, lobster is a must-try when you’re in Maine too. Apparently, there are more American lobsters on this state’s ocean floor than anywhere else in the world! Do yourself a favor and try some lobster mac and cheese or a lobster roll (think lobster salad on a toasted hot dog bun). Trust us, your taste buds will thank you.
In Portland, you can book an excursion with a Lobster fisherman and enjoy a day on the sea. This is one of our favorite activities for families, as you’ll get to help haul traps and perhaps even catch a lobster!
Vacationland
When you’re ready to walk off all those calories, Maine has more than 5,000 miles of Maine’s coastline and 4,600 islands to explore. If you’re willing to treat yourselves, hop on the speedy Amtrak Acela train and get ready for some jaw-dropping views of Chesapeake Bay. It’s a quick and easy jaunt – just 75 minutes from DC to Wilmington, Delaware. And speaking of Wilmington, there’s plenty to do there.
The mother of all train trips may be the Alaska Railroad, turning 100 this year. This train trip is a must-do on Family Travel Forum’s top Alaska activities list and you might even have huskies join you on board. The centennial celebration includes 270 miles of tracks between Seward and Fairbanks and the Anchorage Museum has a special train exhibit running from May to February 2024.
GO WILD IN THE ADIRONDACKS
Located in the northernmost reaches of New York state, the six-million-acre Adirondack Mountains offer a plethora of outdoor activities, scenic sights, and quaint towns with an always-welcoming ambiance. You may be familiar with the Adirondack style: split-log cabins with stone foundations, dark green shutters, wood slat armchairs, evergreen forests. Décor with stuffed bears, Native American-patterned wool blankets and carved decoy ducks are still the norm in Saranac Lake. See why the fresh mountain air and pure, healthy water that put Saranac Lake on the 19th century tourism map have kept it there for today’s families.
Summer recreation abounds, from fishing and hiking to boating and biking. Go birding and see more than 100 species. Mountaineers and rock climbers can access some of the region’s 46 high peaks. The Wild Center, a natural science museum and park in Tupper Lake, is a highlight of any visit. Count on two days of enriching fun at their indoor exhibits, science demonstrations and otter feedings. Outside, the elevated Wild Walk is part climbing gym, part obstacle course, some observation deck and all fun.
EXPEDITION UNCRUISES FOR THE ACTIVE FAMILY
Uncruise Adventures is designed for families seeking immersive, active experiences aboard small ships with flexible itineraries. Uncruise explores some of the world’s most breathtaking destinations from the glacier bays of Alaska, the wilds of British Columbia, and the volcanoes of Hawaii. Guests can kayak their way around rocky shorelines, hike through old-growth rainforests, jump on paddleboards or take part in other activities like snorkeling while soaking up nature.
Smaller cruise ships = more impactful travel – You won’t be crowded with only 22-86 guests and the focus is on nature, culture, and wildlife. Plus, you’ll get all the adventure gear you need and daily activities are included. Did we mention that all meals, beverages, wine, and premium spirits are included too? But it doesn’t stop there; your experience will be even more meaningful with cruises that positively impact local communities. They use fresh ingredients from local farmers and fishermen and even have cultural exchanges with native groups. So, come sail away and make a difference while you’re at it!
Activities for all skill levels – Uncruise Adventures activities are graded on a difficulty scale from 1-7 and are led by expert guides who help your family choose the most fitness-appropriate adventures. As an example, Uncruise features hands-on activities for kids (starting at age 8) from polar plunges and kayaking with whale sharks to treasure hunts. Cruises to Belize, introduced last year, have proved especially popular as are their Alaska cruises.
Savings alert: Remember that you will take off $500 off adult rates in savings for the kids. That’s a standing offer that is part of the kids program and valid for 2023 and 2024 bookings. Check out their departures and get in touch about booking at Uncruise Adventures.

One example is Tel Aviv Pride, which is the biggest LGBTQ+ pride event in the Middle East. It’s the perfect opportunity to experience Israel’s welcoming and diverse culture firsthand.
This summer, there are a couple of events you won’t want to miss. The Jerusalem Film Festival in July and the Red Sea Jazz Festival in August are both amazing cultural experiences that are sure to leave a lasting impression on you. And speaking of unforgettable experiences, have you ever explored the Negev Desert Wine Route? It’s home to some of the most innovative estate wineries in Israel’s largest wine region, and it’s definitely worth checking out.

BALI CALLING
If you’re looking for an exotic family vacation, Bali is the place to go. From the ancient temples and traditional dancing performances of Ubud, to the stunning beaches, pristine coral reefs, and world-class surf spots of Jimbaran, there’s something here for everyone.
There are dozens of family resorts along the coast, but slow roads and humid tropical weather make a central base essential. Check out the cooler, hillside village of Ubud. Bali’s cultural heart and the filming location for “Eat, Pray, Love,” Ubud is packed with boutiques, galleries, restaurants – and hotels.
Book an authentic, ornate villa at one of the family-owned Balinese hotels, oases of calm outside the Monkey Forest. Alam Indah (beautiful nature) has a central dining room where families can meet other guests and a beautiful cliffside pool whose steps are better navigated by older kids. Alam Jiwa (soul of nature) or Alam Shanti (peaceful nature) are even more private among gardens and rice paddies. All have modern amenities, great service and staff who arrange cooking classes, batik-making workshops, kid-friendly guides, yoga, fishing, biking and traditional Balinese massages.
While you can find Burberry and Cartier among Ubud’s batik and sculpture galleries, Bali is still a bargain for family jetsetters. A luxurious, hand-crafted Alam Indah villa for two starts at just $41/night in June; a three-story villa sleeping eight rents for about US$230/night.
Alam Indah Hotels rates include a full Balinese, Western, Indonesian or Australian breakfast delivered to your villa, afternoon tea with Balinese cakes, and free car service into Ubud for shopping and dining.
Land of the Midnight Sun in Finland
Is there any better place to experience the mesmerizing glow of a summer midnight sky than Finland? Not in our opinion! Finland, the northernmost country on the European continent, is perfect for multi-generational family adventures in and around Helsinki.
Come and explore the 18th-century fortress Suomenlinna, rent a boat for an archipelago cruise, visit Nuuksio National Park, or spend the night in a converted prison cell. Even better, there are plenty of kid-friendly activities and attractions in the capital, such as Helsinki’s zoo and the Linnanmäki theme park.
During your family visit, if you want to further explore Finland, head up north to Rovaniemi and experience the legendary Midnight Sun in Lapland. Here you can discover honest, local traditions by visiting reindeer farms and experiencing Sami culture, or just stay inside your log cabin and admire the mesmerizing sun that never seems to set.
For those who want to add some adrenaline to their family getaway, both Lapland and Helsinki offer incredible opportunities for mountain biking, white water rafting, or even summer dog sledding!
But if you’re looking for a truly unique experience, check out the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi is a must-see for your summer vacation! The picturesque town celebrates all things Christmas year-round, with an array of activities designed to bring out the magical side of summer. Check out Santa Claus’ official post office, explore the reindeer farm, and say hello to Santa himself!
SUSTAINABILITY FOCUS MAKES CRUISING FASHIOINABLE
According to CLIA, the trade organization for cruising, a whopping 31.5 million people are predicted to set sail in just a few years. And if you’re an American, you might be interested to know that Hawaii, California, and Mexico are the top cruise destinations from domestic ports, as reported by AAA.
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to venture to foreign ports, Alaskan cruises from Vancouver BC, the splendors of the Mediterranean, and scenic European river cruises are waiting to be explored.
The best value summer cruises are found on Caribbean and Mexico itineraries. One reason travelers are trying or returning to cruises is the advancement the industry has made in becoming more environmentally friendly.
According to a recent survey, over 78% of travelers are willing to pay more for eco-friendly vacations. Luckily, with MSC cruises, you don’t have to! Their ships sail the world and boast alternative fuels like biofuels and liquified natural gas, as well as efficient operations to minimize their environmental impact. And that’s not all – Carnival Corporation’s fleet is also making strides with sleek new hull designs, special frictionless paint, and robust waste management systems.
The culinary teams have even reduced food scraps by 30% which has a big impact on garbage – and some are processed into compost that benefits land communities. Carnival Cruise Line has enlisted Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal to encourage guests not to waste food with videos.
In conclusion
No matter if you’re looking for a unique vacation within the US, or hoping to explore an exotic destination abroad with your family this summer, there are plenty of options available. From breathtaking beaches in Mexico and Hawaii to exploring Lapland under the Midnight Sun, every family will find something they love!
So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and get ready to embark on an unforgettable adventure with your loved ones this summer.
